Post Office must maintain access

Chris Mole MP today expressed extreme disapointment at the proposal by Post Office Ltd to close four Ipswich post offices and has requested an immediate meeting with management representatives to discuss their proposals.

Chris is very concerned that people would have to travel further to use a post office and in particular the proposal to close the post office at 137 London Road will make it difficult for one of Ipswich's poorest communities.

The Post Office has announced the closure of Christchurch Street, Fore Street, 283 Norwich Road, as well as 137 London Road. Chris has pledged to meet Post Office management immediately to convey the views of his constituents.

Chris also condemned the Tory-Liberal Ipswich Borough Council for doing nothing to strengthen the viability of post offices in the town. Chris said: "Whilst the County Council has developed a programme of help for rural post offices, nothing has been done to either develop Ipswich post offices as businesses, or to deliver council services through them.

Chris is encouraging as many people as possible affected by the proposals to write to the Post Office during the consultation period in order to let them know how important their local post office is.

Chris is pleased that the remaining eighteen post offices should now have a secure future.
