Chris Mole MP today (May 2nd 2008) helped launch the new
AirDirect bus service which travels between Ipswich and Stansted
airport.
This new service - run by Stansted based Excel Coaches - is
designed to cater for increased demand for public transport
services to the airport, which has rocketed in recent years. The
proportion of airport passengers using bus and coaches grew from
7.6 percent in 2001 to 19 percent in 2007.
The service begins operating on May 3rd 2008 and will take 75
minutes to reach, costing £20 for a return fare and £15 for a
single fare. Services will travel every 2 hours.
Throughout their journey, passengers can enjoy high quality
facilities on board including wi-fi internet access and leather
reclining seats.
Chris said:
"I think this is a great idea to get more people using
public transport to get to the airport. I am delighted the people
of Ipswich now have this service at their disposal, which will
allow them to cut down on expensive airport parking costs.
"With Ipswich booming; a new University in the town; and the
town's economy rapidly expanding, this fantastic new service will
offer better links to an international airport. This can only act
as a catalyst to Ipswich's success."
